You have to know about Ring Road when you try to read a Beijing Map. That is, Beijng's main road has been constructed in the form of "circle". From the center to the outer, there are the Second Ring Road, the Third Ring Road, the Fourth Ring Road, the Fifth Ring Road and the sixth Ring Road. There is not the First Ring Road. Maybe the walls of the Forbidden City, which is located at the core of the city, forms the First Ring Road. The route Subway Line 2 is roughly equal to the Second Ring Road. The Six Ring Road is newly-built and only the updatest maps has it.
If you want to go to somewhere in Beijing, you'd better know its location. For example, the Forbidden City, the Beihai Park, the Tiananmen Square, the Tiantan Park, the Shichahai Lake and Formal Residence of Celebrities are all located inside the Second Ring Road. The Guo Mao Areas, the famous Central Busines District, lies on the East Third Ring Road. The Beijing Zuoo lies between the West Second and West Third Ring Road and very close to Xizhimen, an important communication connection on the Second Ring Road. The Summer Palace is located between the NorthWest Fourth Ring Road and the Northwest Fifth Ring Road, while the Fragrant Hill Park (Xiangshan Park) rises outside of the West Fifth Ring Road.
