The character has something to do with "bending" or "winding". Its original meaning is diffictult to trace. But we can tell this meaning from many combined characters.
The classic chinese doesn't have any punctuation. People at that time make marks when they thought that a comple meaning had finished, and this is the growing commonly used meaning of the character "句",meaning "a sentence" or "to mark a sentence".
