八(bā)

Its original meaning is “separate”. The ancient scripts give the impression of two separated parts, one lies on the left, and the other lies on the right. Today, “八” has lost the meaning of “separate”, but this information is helpful when we learn other combined Chinese characters with “八” as a radical.
“八” is extremely a good number and Chinese believe it can bring good fortune.
