日 (rì )

The types of charactere script (from left to right)--oracle script, bronzeware script, seal script, regular script
It belongs to pictographs, words formed from things which can be drawn. Its original meaning is SUN. Its ancient scripts keep more features of a sun, a round circle with a dot inside representing the rays of the sun.
In modern Chinese we say “taiyang” (太阳)to refer to Sun. The predominant meaning of “日” have become “DAY.”
“日” is a radical, which is related to SUN or Bright when it forms combined characters. Please point out where ri lie in the following characters.
春 晶 旦 早

今日 (jīn rì) today (今天 is more popular in modern Chinese.)
